Your Ultimate Guide to the Keeping Time Quest in Destiny 2

Most of Destiny 2 Season of Dawn’s quests are pretty straightforward and easy to complete, but Keeping Time gets a little confusing when you don’t know how to attune the second obelisk on Mars. 

It’s a somewhat complicated quest, and there are a few steps you need to follow to get yourself started. This guide will help you navigate your way toward finishing this tricky mission to attain some major rewards.

Finish The “A Matter of Time” Quest First

You need to help Osiris restore the sundial on Mercury. Make sure you head over there and have a chat with him, then he’ll tell you what to do next. Slay some Cabal and get to work repairing the Obelisk. Max out on Light Orbs for a full charge and finally activate the Obelisk and link it to the Sundial. You’ll find it on the Tangled Shore on Mercury.

Speak to Osiris again, and he’ll grant you the ability to travel through time. This will unlock a “Sundial playlist” that players can use to battle with a horde of Cabal. Simply slay the boss and return to Osiris to claim your rewards. He’ll give you a nifty weapon and a seasonal artifact. An artifact helps players boost their characters and grants them unique abilities.

Move On to the “Mars: Obelisk Attunement” Quest

Once you’re done with the first step, you’ll notice Osiris still has a few tasks left for you to do. When you talk to him again, you’ll see an unlocked task named “Mars: Obelisk Attunement.” It’s important that you finish this task to end your quest. If the mission won’t show up for you, accept all the current ones and open the dialogue box again.

Once you’ve accepted the task, head to Mars and mow down some Hives. They spawn at a high rate, so collecting all the necessary resources won’t take long. As soon as you get 50 Braytech points, head over to the Braytech spawn point near the Obelisk and interact with it. That will restore the Obelisk to its former glory, and then you can move on to linking it to the Sundial.

It’s time to slay another horde of enemies with your supers because you need to fill up your Light Charge again. Once it’s fully charged, interact with the Obelisk to activate it and link it to the Sundial. Use your Masterworked weapon to make the process a lot easier and get done faster. These bad boys ensure you get the most out of slaying your enemies as your foes drop better goodies and valuable resources when you kill them.

Complete TimeLost Weapon Bounties

The Obelisks have to level up, so you must complete TimeLost weapon bounties before progressing any further. To bring the Obelisks up to a Resonance rank, you need to finish gathering 3000 glimmers and 10 Polarized Fractaline for each one. Luckily enough, that Level 1 rank weapon bounty is all you need to complete the rest of the quest. 

Just finish the first-level weapon bounty task and increase the Obelisk rank later at your own pace. You will have to wait a little while before the option to pursue the same bounty becomes available again.

Farm Some Polarized Fractaline 

There are a couple of simple ways to farm fractaline. You can rank up either the Tangled Shore Obelisk or the Mars Obelisk to eventually unlock an extractor perk.  Alternatively, you can finish the Obelisk’s bounties or play other quests to earn some. You can also try replaying the Sundial encounter campaign since ten times is enough to level up a resonance rank.

Sometimes, even RNG can help you farm fractaline with events like Strike or Crucible. Free-to-play players can use their triumphs to collect some more, while people with a season pass earn them as they level up through the various ranks.

You can even use three different characters that you play with to farm a significant amount of fractaline from Obelisk bounties. Your Obelisk stays that way for all three characters once you upgrade, so you can gather the resources thrice. It’s easier than grinding your way up the rankings and waiting to finish this important quest. 

Head Back to Osiris

Once you’ve finished the “Time Lost and Found” quest, you must return to Osiris. Enter the premises and interact with him to finally end the “Keeping Time” quest. 

The player will then be rewarded with a Major Fractaline Harvest for all of their troubles. That means they’ll get a substantial amount of fractaline to help them further rank their Obelisks. This beats having to play a ton of quests to gather the resources needed to level up.
